Nurse Practitioners

Nurse practitioners (NPs) are advanced practice providers who manage a variety of medical conditions. NPs are educated at the master’s (MSN) or doctorate level (DNP or PhD). NPs are trained and qualified to diagnose medical conditions, order treatments, perform advanced procedures, prescribe medications, and make referrals for a wide range of acute and chronic illness.

NPs at Sibley Memorial Hospital work with the entire health care team to provide expert care within their specialty area. Delivering this care with respect and compassion to patients is central to their practice.

Practice: Dr. Bishop is an oncology nurse practitioner with an extensive background in oncology. She cares for a variety of cancer patients with solid tumors and hematological cancers in both the outpatient and in-patient setting. Dr. Bishop is a clinical partner to Dr. Bruce Kressel. She is published in several peer reviewed journals on topics such as breast cancer and hematological malignancies. Her publishing also includes topics related to the practice of the NP, with a special focus on the practice of the oncology NP.

She works in collaboration with physicians, nursing staff and other disciplines to address episodic medical and oncologic issues in the out-patient setting, and coordinate care with hospitalist service for the in-patient oncology population. Ms. Cunningham has extensive background in internal medicine and acute care managing a variety of acute and chronic medical conditions.
