Jessica Bienstock, MD, MPH (SPH ’95) has been named the inaugural director of graduate clinical education and senior associate dean for graduate medical education. She will continue as the designated institutional official for the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine.
In her new role, Dr. Bienstock will provide a central source of support and guidance for the many graduate-level allied health professions training programs, program directors and learners whose education and training takes place at Johns Hopkins Medicine clinical sites. Dr. Bienstock will establish a formal committee of postgraduate program directors who can share exemplary practices and create uniform policies to support these educational programs. She will also communicate with all allied health training program directors about institution-wide policies and protocols and work with program directors to ensure standardization of on-boarding and orientation of learners. The new Office of Graduate Clinical Education will review agreements and contracts with outside schools and participating sites, provide accreditation assistance, help programs enhance diversity, equity and inclusion, and facilitate interprofessional education opportunities. Of note, graduate-level nursing programs will remain under the auspices of the current nursing reporting structure.
Dr. Bienstock is a professor of gynecology and obstetrics at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. As the associate dean for graduate medical education and the designated institutional official at the school of medicine, Dr. Bienstock has been a resource for program directors and learners in the 103 residency and fellowship programs accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) and the 67 ACGME-equivalent fellowship programs sponsored by the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. Dr. Bienstock has served as the chair of the ACGME Council of Review Committee Chairs, and she is currently a member of the ACGME board of directors executive committee. She is also a fellow in the interprofessional ACGME diversity, equity and inclusion-focused Equity Matters leadership program.
