BALTIMORE, MD – The Johns Hopkins Hospital has been named an Honor Roll hospital in U.S. News & World Report’s 2023–24 Best Hospitals list, which was released today. The U.S. News Honor Roll is composed of the 20 top-ranked hospitals in the nation among 4,500 reviewed by the publication.

For the first time in the history of the Best Hospitals list, U.S. News has chosen not to assign individual ranks to the top 20 hospitals. The Johns Hopkins Hospital fully supports this decision and believes it is a move in the right direction, as the data and methodology used by U.S. News do not allow for meaningful distinctions between leading national hospitals — all of which offer exceptional patient care.

In a note to Johns Hopkins Medicine employees, Theodore DeWeese, M.D., interim dean of the medical faculty and CEO of Johns Hopkins Medicine, and Kevin Sowers, M.S.N., R.N., F.A.A.N., president of the Johns Hopkins Health System and executive vice president of Johns Hopkins Medicine, applauded this year’s change. Johns Hopkins and other peer hospitals and health systems in the United States have been concerned for many years that the methodology U.S. News uses to rank hospitals does not fully reflect the overall quality of care provided for patients, they said. They also noted that Johns Hopkins will continue the dialogue with U.S. News to ensure that meaningful improvements in methodology are made in the coming years.

“We are proud of the world-class care offered by our hospitals, faculty and staff. Your commitment to providing the highest quality care for our patients and their families continues to inspire and motivate us,” they said.

Four other Johns Hopkins Medicine member hospitals in Maryland and Washington, D.C. — Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center, Johns Hopkins Howard County Medical Center, Sibley Memorial Hospital and Suburban Hospital — were also recognized in state and regional rankings.
