For the fourth consecutive year, Sibley Memorial Hospital’s Senior Association will present its Journey to Hope conference and expo to assist those caring for people with Alzheimer’s and related disorders.

Washington, D.C.—For the fourth consecutive year, Sibley Memorial Hospital’s Senior Association will present its Journey to Hope conference and expo to assist those caring for people with Alzheimer’s and related disorders. Conference participants can learn important tips to improve caregiver connections with the person suffering from memory and cognitive challenges while learning to take care of themselves. 

The conference will take place on Saturday, May 11, at Sibley Memorial Hospital in Conference Rooms 1 & 2 of Building A, from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Doors will open at 8:30 a.m. for registration. Sibley’s Building A is located at 5215 Loughboro Road, NW, Washington D.C. The event is free for Alzheimer’s caregivers.

Topics and speakers include:

• What Matters Most—Supporting Dementia Caregivers at Home Quincy Samus, PhD, is an applied gerontologist, trained in interventional health services research and epidemiology. She is the director of translational aging services and an associate professor of psychiatry and behavioral sciences at Johns Hopkins Medicine.
• Alzheimer’s Disease and Dementia: Current Treatments and New Approaches Arnold Bakker, PhD, is the director of the Psychiatry Neuroimaging Core and assistant professor of psychiatry and behavioral sciences at Johns Hopkins Medicine.
• Navigating Safe Passage for the Goodship of Family Care Carolyn Parr and Sig Cohen are authors of Love’s Way: Living Peacefully with Your Family as Your Parents Age and owners of Tough Conversations, a mediation firm for older adults and their families.
• It Takes a Village Tilli Williams, known as Dr. Tilli, is a naturopathic physician and founder of the DC Wellness Institute. She is a health and wellness coach and consultant. She will talk about stress management and self-care.
• Choosing to Care Amy Goyer is author of Juggling Life, Work, and Caregiving, among other titles. She will focus on her hard-earned practical tips for navigating caregiving.
