From Nov. 14 through Dec. 13, retired military beneficiaries, their eligible family members, and active duty family members can enroll in the Plan, for coverage beginning Jan. 1, 2023. Under contract with the Department of Defense, Johns Hopkins US Family Health Plan administers the TRICARE Prime benefit and offers extra value-added coverage to its members.

After adding Sentara Healthcare to its provider network, Johns Hopkins US Family Health Plan will now be available to eligible beneficiaries in southeastern Virginia, including York, Poquoson, Newport News, Norfolk and Hampton. Plan members will be able to receive care from Sentara Healthcare, plus more than 26,000 other providers in the Plan’s network, for all covered services.

“For more than 40 years, Johns Hopkins US Family Health Plan has been a proud member of the military health system, delivering high-quality patient-centered care to our deserving military members,” said Mary Cooke, Vice President of Johns Hopkins US Family Health Plan. “We are honored to serve the health care needs of military families and are excited to offer access to local providers, as well as our plan’s entire network of top doctors and hospitals, including the world-renowned Johns Hopkins Health System.”

Highlights of the Johns Hopkins US Family Health Plan include the comprehensive TRICARE Prime benefit plus extras, such as two free dental cleanings per year, one free eye exam per year, and no-appointment after-hours telehealth services. Currently, Johns Hopkins US Family Plan serves plan members throughout Maryland, Washington, D.C., Delaware, and parts of Northern Virginia, West Virginia, and Pennsylvania. The addition of prominent health systems in southeastern Virginia provides access to providers and facilities previously not available to military families.

“As the largest health system in Virginia and with headquarters in the Hampton Roads area, we are honored to care for the local military community by participating with Johns Hopkins US Family Health Plan,” Lance Torcom, Vice President and Chief Managed Care Officer, Sentara Healthcare, said. “We look forward to partnering with JHHC to provide additional access and more care choices for the brave active-duty and retired members of the armed forces and their family members.”

Johns Hopkins US Family Health Plan is administered by Johns Hopkins HealthCare (JHHC). J.P. Holland, President and CEO of JHHC, is a U.S. Navy veteran who knows firsthand the unique experiences of military families and the importance of a health plan that caters to their needs.

“This expansion allows us to serve even more military families with a plan that provides flexibility and choice at the same cost as other TRICARE Prime options,” Holland said. “Although we’re new to the southeastern Virginia area, we bring with us a history of specialized care delivered by experts who understand the military community and offer not just health care coverage, but a collaborative journey to better health.”
