Dec. 1, 2023 — Johns Hopkins Medicine recently announced the appointment of Cheryl A. Sadro, C.P.A, M.S.M., as senior vice president and chief financial officer for Johns Hopkins Medicine. She will begin her new role on Jan. 8.

As senior vice president and chief financial officer, Sadro will oversee six hospitals as well as Johns Hopkins Community Physicians. She will also be responsible for joint ventures and subsidiaries with The Johns Hopkins University, including the Johns Hopkins Home Care Group, Johns Hopkins Health Plans, Johns Hopkins International, Johns Hopkins Surgery Center Series and Johns Hopkins Medical Alliance for Patients.

“We are delighted to welcome Cheryl to Johns Hopkins Medicine,” said Theodore L. DeWeese, M.D., interim dean of the medical faculty and CEO of Johns Hopkins Medicine. “Her strategic mindset and deep understanding of the industry landscape will undoubtedly help grow our impact as one of the leading academic medical centers in the world.”

Sadro brings nearly 25 years of experience to the role. She is currently the chief financial officer for University of California Davis Health in Sacramento, CA. In that position, she manages the financial portfolio of a multibillion-dollar enterprise that includes a 646-bed academic medical center, schools of medicine and nursing, and inland Northern California’s only level 1 adult and pediatric trauma center. During her tenure, she has had oversight of a $7 billion facility redesign and led long range planning involving state and national health care reform scenarios. She also served on their internal audit and health care data oversight committees and on the AI Governing Board.

Previously, she was a member of the leadership team at the University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB), as the executive vice president and chief business and finance officer and held leadership roles with Catholic Health Initiatives (now part of Common Spirit Health) and Ascension Health.

"With so many challenges facing academic health organizations today, we knew that we had to select the right person to take on the role of CFO for Johns Hopkins Medicine,” added Kevin W. Sowers, M.S.N., R.N., F.A.A.N., president of the Johns Hopkins Health System and executive vice president of Johns Hopkins Medicine. “Cheryl clearly understands the importance of achieving all three prongs of our mission -- focused on patient care, research and education. She operates at the intersection of those three missions and has ample experience collaborating with leaders in the academic health care environment and beyond. We're excited to partner with her as we plan for JHM's future."

Sadro received her bachelor of science degree in accounting from Florida State University, and earned a master of science degree in health care management from Troy State University in Alabama.
