VHC Health Welcomes New Hopkins Plan

Plan will serve Arlington County, City of Fairfax and City of Falls Church

BALTIMORE, MD — On Oct. 1, 2023, Johns Hopkins Health Plans introduced Johns Hopkins Advantage MD Select (HMO), a new Medicare Advantage plan, to Medicare-beneficiaries in Arlington County, City of Fairfax and City of Falls Church in Virginia.

“Partnering with leading community hospital systems was a key part of our plan to expand to Northern Virginia,” said J.P. Holland, President and CEO of Johns Hopkins Health Plans. “Having access to local providers is important to growing our Medicare Advantage membership and VHC Health is a vital part of the Arlington community and throughout the Washington, DC metro area.”

A Medicare Advantage plan is an alternative to Original Medicare offered by a Medicare-approved private insurance company. These plans provide the same health coverage as Medicare Part A and B and often include Part D (prescription drug coverage). Many Medicare Advantage plans also may offer additional benefits such as dental, vision, and fitness.

“As the region's community health system providing exceptional medical services to this area, we are honored to care for the senior population by participating with Johns Hopkins Advantage MD,” VHC Health Brenda Babbitt, System Associate Vice President, Managed Care said. “We look forward to collaborating with Johns Hopkins Health Plans to provide additional access and more choices for their members.”

Over half of Medicare-eligible individuals chose to enroll in a Medicare Advantage plan in 2022. The introduction of Johns Hopkins Advantage MD Select to the Virginia market provides a unique option to Medicare beneficiaries in the Northern Virginia service area — a health plan that is supported by the medical expertise and innovation of Johns Hopkins Medicine.
