According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, more than 27,000 older adults die as a result of falls each year. Additionally, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission found that children suffer from 25,400 fall-related injuries annually. To address these preventable tragedies, some Johns Hopkins Health System trauma centers, as part of the Maryland Falls Free Coalition, will host events — including one this week — to educate people about fall prevention. The theme is Let’s Stand Up to Falls Together. This week’s event, like the others, is free and open to the public.

What:

The Johns Hopkins Hospital’s adult and pediatric trauma centers will host a Fall Prevention Awareness Fair from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday, outside of Balducci’s. The fair will feature information on fall prevention, and giveaways. Attendees will learn where and why falls happen, and gain useful tips to prevent falls at home. A free 30-minute yoga demonstration will emphasize yoga moves to help prevent falls.
