Two at Johns Hopkins Receive Award of Excellence in BioImages 2014 Competition

Norm Barker, M.A., M.S., a professor of pathology and art as applied medicine at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, and Lydia Gregg, M.A., an instructor and certified medical illustrator at the school, each received an Award of Excellence in the BioCommunications Association’s 2014 BioImages competition.

The competition showcases “the finest photography, graphic design and videography in the life sciences and medicine,” according to a Biocommunications Association statement. The Award of Excellence is given to entries that achieve the highest standards of professionalism.

Barker received his award in the Still Media: General Illustrative category for his photo “Inside the Dome, Johns Hopkins Hospital.” Gregg was honored in the Still Media: Medical Illustrative category for her photo “Future Biomarkers for Moyamoya Disease.” Their photos may be viewed in the BCA’s 2014 BioImages gallery at
Winners were announced at the BioImages Honors Reception and Awards Banquet, which was held in July in Rochester, Minn., in conjunction with BCA’s 2014 annual meeting.

The BioCommunications Association Inc. is an international professional association of photographers, designers, illustrators, and videographers working in visual communications for the life sciences.
