Media Alert: Free Community Health Screenings
Release Date: June 23, 2017
The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine’s Brancati Center will provide free community health screenings this Saturday, June 24, at Zion Baptist Church/Oliver Community Outreach Fair.
Services offered include:
- Blood pressure screening
- Diabetes risk assessments
- Glucose screening
The Brancati Center’s mission is to improve the health of communities -- locally and nationally -- by developing, evaluating and disseminating new models of health care that leverage the skills of a diverse range of health care providers. The Brancati Center works to accomplish this by engaging community and corporate organizations, payers and policy-makers in a supportive partnership with patients and caregivers.
The Brancati Center has also implemented a National Diabetes Prevention Program, a Centers for Disease Control and Prevention-recognized lifestyle change program. Through this new program, East Baltimore pastors and community members have been trained as LifeStyle Coaches to help fellow community members manage weight, eat more healthfully and increase physical activity. Called the Power to Stop Diabetes, the program is one of only three coordinated efforts of its kind in Maryland.
The Brancati Center staff and volunteers will provide free community health screenings
