Becker's Hospital Review magazine has selected The Johns Hopkins Hospital as one of the “50 Best Hospitals in America.”  The award is based on reputation among M.D. specialists and analysis from the publication’s editorial team, who scored and weighted data from outside sources examining patient safety, clinical outcomes and reputation.  After reviewing these national rankings, the team performed additional research and sought insight from industry sources before determining final selections.

This is the second year that the publication has conducted a ranking of all hospitals within the contiguous 48 states and the District of Columbia. The magazine has a readership of more than 10,000 and focuses on business and legal issues for hospital leaders.

“With this award comes the responsibility to not only maintain the high level of quality that the nation expects from us, but also to improve on that quality every day,” says Ronald R. Peterson, president of The Johns Hopkins Hospital and Health System.

The other regional winners in Maryland, Virginia, Washington, D.C., Delaware and Pennsylvania include Henrico Doctors’ Hospital (Richmond, Va.), Inova Fairfax Hospital (Falls Church, Va.), Christiana Care Health System (Wilmington, Del.), Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania (Philadelphia, Pa.), Lehigh Valley Hospital (Allentown, Pa.), and the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (Pittsburgh, Pa.). According to the publication, “Becker's Hospital Review has named the 50 best hospitals in America, ranging from well-known academic medical centers to less widely recognized community hospitals that have reached greatness without much fanfare.”
