Hopkins Nurse Receives National Award

Gina Szymanski, M.S., R.N., nurse manager at the Johns Hopkins Kimmel Cancer Center, has received the Linda Arenth Excellence in Cancer Nursing Management Award from the Oncology Nursing Society. The award recognizes outstanding individuals in cancer nursing administration at the local, state, and national levels as well as those who mentor others in the field of cancer nursing administration. Linda Arenth died in 1982 of cancer at the age of 59. She was the vice president of nursing and patient services at Johns Hopkins. Earlier, she had served as first director of nursing at the Cancer Center, known then as the Johns Hopkins Oncology Center, where she developed the system now used nationally to designate nursing services for different types of cancer patients.
