In the courtyard entrance to The Charlotte R. Bloomberg Children’s Center and the Sheikh Zayed Tower at Johns Hopkins Hospital are a series of gardens, tied together by walkways. With benches, a reflecting pool and waterfall, they provide a serene space for relaxation and meditation. Open to visitors, the gardens were included early in the new buildings' design as a green space to help counterbalance the stresses of illness and hospitalization for patients, families and friends, as well as those who strive to heal them.

The Milton A. and Harriet F. Laitman Memorial Garden is a gift from Harriet Laitman, a longtime supporter of pediatric medicine at Johns Hopkins, and is named in memory of her life with her husband of 65 years, Milton, an avid gardener. Their garden was dedicated Friday, May 18, in a ceremony attended by Mrs. Laitman, friends and family.

Designed by landscape architects from OLIN, the Milton A. and Harriet F. Laitman Memorial Garden is composed of three distinct areas: an entrance garden, healing garden and meditation garden, the latter featuring a waterfall and pond for water lilies.

Milton Laitman died in 2007.
