Celebrating 1 Year CLABSI-Free

The Johns Hopkins Children’s Center pediatric intensive care unit has not had a central line-associated bloodstream infection (CLABSI) in more than a year.

The achievement is the culmination of a 10-year plan to reduce CLABSI. The effort included staff members routinely applying dressings and performing chlorhexidine gluconate baths, weekly audits dedicated to central line care, daily discussions about line necessity, advancing from IV to enteral medications, maintaining clean rooms for patients, keeping supplies stocked and much more.
