The 2025 Stethoscope and White Coat Ceremonies

Doctors stand for the white coat ceremony

Last fall, the school of medicine held its Stethoscope Ceremony for first-year medical students and its White Coat Ceremony for graduate students who have passed their qualifying exams. These ceremonies are an important rite of passage for students on their journeys to becoming physicians and scientists. For medical students, receiving a stethoscope symbolizes the responsibility and privilege of caring for patients. And for graduate students, the white coat comes with an oath to uphold the highest standards and integrity in their pursuit of scientific discovery. (First-year medical students attend their White Coat Ceremony in the spring).

To mark these special occasions and welcome students to the school of medicine community, alumni began the tradition of sponsoring white coats and stethoscopes. The school of medicine is close to reaching its $35,000 goal. Thanks to the generosity of Johns Hopkins Medicine trustee Gail McGovern, donations will be matched dollar-for-dollar up to $15,000. Use the QR code below to sponsor a white coat and stethoscope and leave a note of encouragement for our students. Help empower the next generation of physicians and scientists!
