This momentous occasion honored the legacy and leadership of Dr. Jonathan Lewin, former Martin Donner Professor and Director of the Russell H. Morgan Department of Radiology and Radiological Science, and former Radiologist-in-Chief at Johns Hopkins. He led the department from 2004 until 2016, while serving in numerous leadership and advisory roles for Johns Hopkins Medicine, including Co-Chair for Strategic Planning and Senior Vice President for Integrated Healthcare Delivery. He then joined the faculty of Emory University to serve as Executive Vice President for Health Affairs, as well as CEO and Chairman of the Board for Emory Healthcare, positions which he held until 2022. He currently serves as Professor of Radiology, Biomedical Engineering, and Neurosurgery in the Emory School of Medicine and Professor of Health Policy and Management in the Emory Rollins School of Public Health.
Dr. Peter Barker, who received his doctorate from Oxford University in his native England, joined the Johns Hopkins Radiology faculty in 1989 as an Assistant Professor in the Division of Magnetic Resonance Research. He now serves as a Professor of Radiology and Oncology and Director of the Division of Magnetic Resonance Research. He has been active in research on magnetic resonance for more than four decades and specializes in neuroimaging, in particular magnetic resonance spectroscopy (MRS) and advanced magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) techniques for the evaluation of the human brain. His research has focused both on technical development, as well as the application of MRS and MRI for the improved understanding and diagnosis of neurological, psychiatric, and oncological diseases.

Welch Medical Library. The event was very well-attended, and hosted four current and former chairs of Johns Hopkins Radiology: Dr. Karen Horton acknowledged the historic leadership of Dr. Lewin, as well as Dr. Elias Zerhouni, Professor Emeritus of Radiology and Biomedical Engineering at the Johns Hopkins University and former Director of the National Institutes of Health; and Dr. William R. Brody, President Emeritus of Johns Hopkins University and professor emeritus in the Department of Radiology.
Drs. Lewin and Barker gave remarks—the former recollecting his fond memories and lessons learned during his leadership of the department, and the latter expressing deep gratitude to Dr. Lewin and all the donors who made the Lewin Professorship possible. The department would also like to thank the many members of our community who came together to honor these leaders in our field, and Dr. Lewin for his steadfast support and dedication to our Radiology family.
