Wilmer Expands to Arlington

Sleek lobby of the Johns Hopkins Arlington practice filled with natural light.

The Wilmer Eye Institute, Johns Hopkins Medicine, has expanded into Virginia for the first time with a new satellite clinic in Arlington, situated within the Johns Hopkins Medicine facility at Ballston Quarter Mall.

At 4102 Wilson Boulevard, the site is easily accessible by the Washington, D.C. Metro system and offers plenty of onsite parking.

Wilmer’s presence in Arlington begins with four providers and eight exam rooms featuring state-of-the-art equipment. Isabel Deakins, O.D., specializes in dry eye treatment, specialty contact lenses and comprehensive eye care. Eunice Hwang, O.D., provides comprehensive eye care. Lisa Lin, M.D., M.B.E., is part of Wilmer’s Division of Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery and specializes in eye tissue surgery and thyroid eye disease. Emerson Que, M.D., specializes in cataracts, dry eye disease treatment and comprehensive eye care.

Since the Arlington location’s May opening, nearly 1000 patients have visited the clinic, according to Wilmer administrator Cathy Kowalewski. Hwang began seeing patients at Arlington when the clinic opened, while Deakins, Lin and Que joined the institute in recent weeks. Kowalewski says the institute continues to explore opportunities to bring in providers from additional ophthalmology subspecialties.

“Arlington has great promise for us at the Wilmer Eye Institute in terms of patient demand for top notch ophthalmology services,” Kowalewski says. “We are looking forward to taking care of northern Virginia and the surrounding area.”

The Arlington location extends Wilmer’s commitment to the National Capital Region, complementing its Bethesda satellite clinic, which first opened in 2013 and then expanded and relocated to its current location at the Westmoreland Building in 2019.

“Our focus in the National Capital Region is to be a partner to our communities, providing them access to high quality, patient-centered and evidenced-based care when they need it, whether that be primary or specialty care,” says Carolyn Carpenter, M.H.A., F.A.C.H.E., president of the National Capital Region of Johns Hopkins Health System. “Our location in Arlington combines ease of access with a wide array of services. We look forward to delivering on our commitment to expand access to JHM services and meet the growing need for primary and specialty care.”
