Sheila K. West, Ph.D., Pharm.D., received the Helen Keller Prize for Vision Research in 2020. West was commended for greatly reducing the incidence of trachoma — a vision-threatening disease — globally and introducing population science to the field of ophthalmology, among many other scientific achievements. Created in 1994, the Helen Keller Prize for Vision Research honors pioneers in science and vision research.
