What attracted you to the field of optometry?

Since I was young, science has always been my favorite subject. I was fascinated by the intricacies of the human body and over time, that interest naturally grew into a passion for health care. I discovered my passion for optometry while working as a technician in an eye care practice. I loved interacting with patients and realized that optometry extends far beyond prescribing glasses and contacts. The eyes provide crucial insight into overall health, and I find it especially rewarding to be able to manage and treat the ocular manifestations of systemic disease.

How did you become interested in your specialty?

During my time in optometry school, I had the opportunity to rotate through all the specialties, and I found something to love in each one. I had a professor tell me, “Then you would be the perfect comprehensive optometrist.” He was right! Now, as a comprehensive eye care provider, I’m grateful to continue engaging with that same variety every day, and to have the skill set to help patients in many ways.

What drew you to Wilmer?

Wilmer has an outstanding reputation for patient care, leading research and clinical excellence. I feel extremely fortunate to work alongside colleagues who have made significant contributions in the field and who share the same passion for prioritizing patient care through evidence-based research. Being part of Wilmer has allowed me to provide care with access to exceptional resources and support, ultimately helping me better serve my patients.

What are you working on right now and how will it contribute to the advancement of optometry?

I am currently working towards becoming a fellow of the American Academy of Optometry. I have come across some interesting cases during my time here and have been collecting clinical data. I hope to contribute meaningful knowledge to our profession and be a valuable resource to my colleagues and patients.

Is there anything else you would like people to know?

The Wilmer Eye Institute recently expanded beyond Maryland for the first time, and I’m honored to serve as the first provider based in Arlington, Virginia. It’s a privilege to bring Wilmer’s exceptional eye care to a new region and to be a part of this exciting chapter!
