Did you know the Eye Trauma Center at the Wilmer Eye Institute is the only Level 1 Eye Trauma Center in the mid-Atlantic region and is one of the highest volume eye trauma centers in the U.S? In partnership with The Johns Hopkins Hospital and The Johns Hopkins Health System, the center cares for patients transferred from more than 100 different facilities in Maryland and the surrounding region.

This focus on eye trauma is especially relevant as July marks Fireworks Eye Safety Month, a time when injuries related to fireworks are at their peak. Injuries from fireworks account for about 9,000 yearly visits to the ER, with about 20% of those being eye-related. These injuries largely occur in the weeks near the Fourth of July.
