Radiology Residents, Fellows Celebrate Graduation

It was a fun and festive atmosphere as family, friends, faculty, mentors, and colleagues recently joined to celebrate the graduation of the Johns Hopkins Department of Radiology residency classes of 2025, including the Diagnostic Radiology, Interventional Radiology, and Nuclear Medicine programs. 

Family, friends, colleagues, and mentors gathered recently to celebrate the Johns Hopkins Department of Radiology’s residency class of 2025. The ceremony was held at the Four Seasons Baltimore.

Dr. Kelvin Hong, executive vice chair of the Department of Radiology, opened with welcoming remarks. He congratulated the graduates on completing “one of the most demanding journeys you will take,” noting the reputation for excellence and instructional rigor that the name Johns Hopkins brings with it. He also thanked all of the family and friends present, noting the importance of their support to each of the residents.

Dr. Erin Gomez, director of the Diagnostic Radiology residency program, also took time to speak to the graduates before presenting them with certificates.

Looking affectionately at the residents she has gotten to know so well over the last four years, Dr. Gomez praised them for their hard work and commitment. She urged them to continue their patient-centric focus, noting, “Remember, the person in those medical images is somebody’s somebody.” 

Following her remarks, Dr. Gomez awarded certificates to the following graduating Diagnostic Radiology and Molecular Imaging residents:

Diagnostic Radiology Residency Graduates 

  • Won Kyu Paul Choi, going on to a fellowship in nuclear medicine at Johns Hopkins
  • Susan Dhamala, going on to a fellowship in body MR imaging at Johns Hopkins
  • Evan Fox, going on to a fellowship in neuroradiology at Johns Hopkins
  • Naveen Ghuman, going on to a fellowship in breast imaging
  • Matthew Hoyer, going on to a fellowship in breast imaging
  • Michael McColl, going on to a fellowship in emergency and trauma imaging
  • Andrew Simmerman, going on to a fellowship in musculoskeletal imaging at Johns Hopkins
  • Matthew Wilson, going on to a fellowship in neuroradiology at Johns Hopkins

Molecular Imagining Residency Graduate

Chief residents for the 2024-2025 year were Dr. Abdullah Al-Zaghal (molecular), Dr. Naveen Ghuman (diagnostic), Dr. Tej Mehta (interventional), and Dr. Andrew Simmerman (diagnostic). 

Rising chief residents for the 2025-2026 year are Dr. Andrew Voter (diagnostic), Dr. Sarah Oberhelman (diagnostic), Dr. Carolina Lugo-Fagundo (interventional), Dr. Tony Kim (interventional), and Dr. Reza Shaghaghi (molecular).
