Jenny Terry, R.N., Receives the DAISY Award

Jenny Terry, R.N., on the Surgical Neuroscience unit, received the DAISY Award. She was nominated for this honor by a colleague who wrote:
“The care Jenny provided over the last couple of months to one of our long-term patients really stood out to me. This patient came to us as a previously healthy 17-year-old from Honduras who suffered several brain altering injuries. After spending time in the PICU, she was transferred to our unit. Jenny, who speaks Spanish, became one of her nurses. The days turned into weeks and now months, and we started to see glimmers of hope, especially when Jenny was taking care of her. Outside of medical interventions, the simple act of speaking to her in her native language seemed to be healing. Her constant movements and neurostorming would slightly calm down when Jenny was in the room speaking to her. The absent look in her eyes became a little less distant – she was starting to follow simple commands and give a thumbs-up. Caring for this patient was heavy on all of our hearts, but Jenny always made time to go into her room for a visit – even when she wasn’t her nurse and had a full assignment. She made this patient and her family a top priority. I’m amazed at the genuine love and care she provided. Jenny has reminded me why we do what we do every day, and I am proud to work alongside her.”
Jenny’s manager added:
“Jenny has been a member of the Surgical Neuroscience team for over two years. As a graduate of the Johns Hopkins All Children’s Pediatric Acute Care Fellowship program, Jenny brought her experience and excitement for nursing to night shift. She is frequently recognized by her peers and families for her kindness and willingness to go the extra mile for her patients. We are so lucky to have Jenny as part of our All Children’s family!”
Congratulations, Jenny, and thank you for your commitment to patient- and family-centered care.
