July 16 is recognized as Artificial Intelligence Appreciation Day. Wilmer clinician-scientists are making important contributions in AI applications to retina, neuro-ophthalmology, glaucoma and ocular oncology. Its impact in ophthalmology is expected to multiply exponentially in the decades to come, particularly in predictive applications that will help personalize ophthalmic care.

In 2024, Wilmer launched the James P. Gills Jr., M.D., and Heather Gills Artificial Intelligence Innovation Center, under the leadership of T.Y. Alvin Liu. The center ensures that Wilmer is at the cutting edge of AI technology.
