Gastroenterology Group Joins Johns Hopkins All Children’s

The Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition of Florida team has been caring for Johns Hopkins All Children’s patients for more than 40 years. Now, the organizations are officially joining together.

Johns Hopkins All Children’s has acquired the practice with its physicians and advanced practice providers joining All Children’s Specialty Physicians as of March 3, 2025.

The organizations began collaborating in 1984 when Daniel McClenathan, M.D., founded the gastroenterology practice and joined the medical staff of All Children’s Hospital after completing residency training at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine and a fellowship at Harvard Medical School. Over the years, he and Michael Wilsey, M.D., have served in leadership roles on Johns Hopkins All Children’s medical staff and, along with their colleagues, have helped to train many pediatric residents at All Children’s. Several of the current physicians in the gastroenterology practice were residents at All Children’s before pursuing fellowship training. The practice now has offices throughout west central Florida, including

Ocala, Port Richey, Sarasota, Tampa, and space in Johns Hopkins All Children’s outpatient locations in Brandon, Lakeland and St. Petersburg.

“Our practice and All Children’s have come a long way through the years,” McClenathan says. “I’m proud of being able to care for so many families, and this helps ensure our team will be able to continue to care for kids for generations to come.”

This transition will give patients greater access to tools such as the MyChart patient portal, which connects patients and families with electronic health records and care instructions and aids communication with the clinical team. The gastroenterology team will have greater ability to use the research and resources of Johns Hopkins Medicine, and the hospital will be able to build on the gastroenterology program’s success as it expands to a second hospital campus in Wesley Chapel. That campus is scheduled to open in 2027.

“This presents a tremendous opportunity for Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital to continue to develop its pediatric gastroenterology program and provide the most advanced care for children from across the state of Florida who have the most complex gastroenterological disease,” says Tony Napolitano, M.D., Johns Hopkins All Children’s chief strategy officer and chair of the Department of Pediatric Medicine. “We hope to become a destination program for families who need the most advanced gastrointestinal care.”
