The Department of Art as Applied to Medicine is a leader in the field of visual communication for science and health care. Built on a strong foundation of scientific knowledge, artistic technique, and clear visual communication, the department has maintained the highest standards while embracing new medical, scientific, and communication technologies.
The department offers a two-year, accredited, Master of Arts graduate program in Medical and Biological Illustration, one of only five such programs in North America. Faculty members conduct research and produce illustrations, animations, 3D models and graphic design for the medical, research and publishing communities.
At the Facial, Eye & Body Prosthetics Clinic, our Certified Clinical Anaplastologists provide patients with non-weight bearing custom-designed rehabilitative prostheses. The department also offers a two-year Master of Science program in Clinical Anaplastology, the first program of its kind.
