Outpatient Center Renamed
The Johns Hopkins Outpatient Center is renamed the Levi Watkins, Jr., M.D., Outpatient Center, effective June 2023. Dr. Watkins was a pioneer in cardiac surgery and civil rights who died in 2015. Among his many accomplishments and contributions, Dr. Watkins was the first surgeon to implant an automatic heart defibrillator in a patient. He also led Johns Hopkins Medicine’s efforts to recruit minoritized medical students and grow overall diversity throughout our institutions.
