Office of Student Affairs

The principal objective of the Office of Student Affairs, located in the Broadway Research Building Suite 137, is to serve the needs of the students in the many aspects of life in the School of Medicine. A student who has a question about the experience here and who is uncertain as to an appropriate resource for an answer should check at the office. Anyone needing assistance in adapting to this environment, or advice about personal or professional matters, should visit the Associate or Assistant Deans for Student Affairs. The range of issues that may be addressed is broad and additional resources will be found when needed. 

The office plays a major role in the application process for postdoctoral positions, in arrangements for special funding of student projects, and in working with the Johns Hopkins Medical Student Society and other student groups. Notices containing new or more current information on a variety of topics are posted on this website and/or sent to each student at frequent intervals.

In addition to scheduled appointments each Dean has "Office Hours" on a weekly basis. Walk-in hours will begin Wednesday, September 6, 2006. The Deans have set aside the following times for walk-in hours every week:

Dr. Barone/Dr. Miller*                       Monday                 1:00 p.m.—3:00p.m.

Dr. Koenig                                      Wednesday            1:00 p.m.—3:00 p.m.

*Dr. Barone and Dr. Miller will alternate coverage of the Monday walk-in hours.

Dr. Simpson has office hours every Thursday from 1:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. Please call Cheryl or Doris at 5-3416 to make an appointment to see Dr. Simpson during her office hours.

Formal appointments are not made for this time frame (except for Dr. Simpson).  For your convenience, a sign-up sheet is available in the office and you will be seen in the order that your name is on the list.  The walk-in hours are for students who may have a question that can be answered in an amount of time that will allow other students the opportunity to also take advantage of these hours.  Please feel free to stop by any other time to schedule an appointment if you have a lengthy issue to discuss.

There are times when these hours are compromised by a mandatory meeting, a call to the Hospital or an out-of-town responsibility.  If there is a change in time or cancellation of walk-in hours, you will be notified by e-mail.
