Research Lab Results
-
Janet Record Lab
Research in the Janet Record Lab focuses on medical education and patient-centered care. We’re currently developing a curriculum for internal medicine residents in the inpatient general medicine service setting. The curriculum teaches residents to use hand-carried ultrasound for imaging the inferior vena cava to assess volume status. -
Colleen Christmas Lab
The Colleen Christmas Lab studies geriatric medicine, with a focus on geriatric education, interventions to reduce inappropriate nursing home citations by state surveyors, nutrition and fall prevention for geriatric patients, and perioperative geriatric care. -
Gerard Anderson Lab
Research in the Gerard Anderson Lab examines chronic conditions, comparative insurance systems in developing countries, medical education, health care payment reform and technology diffusion. We’ve conducted reviews of health systems for USAID and the World Bank in several countries. -
Bimal Ashar Lab
Research in the Bimal Ashar Lab focuses on preventive medicine, medical education and dietary supplements. Recent research explored medical residents' knowledge of dietary supplements and examined the reported validity and reliability of methods for evaluating continuing medical education. -
Bruce Leff Lab
Research interests in the Bruce Leff Lab include home hospital, guided care, medical education and long-term care. -
Deborah Schwengel Lab
Research in the Deborah Schwengel Lab focuses on perioperative care of pediatric patients with obstructive sleep apnea as well as anesthetic care for patients undergoing ethanol embolization of vascular malformations. Our team also explores topics within graduate medical education. In this field, our work has involved evaluating both an educational curriculum and a disaster preparedness curriculum for anesthesiology residents. We also have a long-standing interest in international adoption medicine.Principal Investigator

Youngjee Choi Lab
Research in the Youngjee Choi Lab focuses on ambulatory care, cancer survivorship, high-value care and medical education. -
Leonard Feldman Lab
Research in the Leonard Feldman Lab is focused on consult medicine, high-value care and medical education, including resident training and online curriculum. Past studies include integrating lessons on respect and courtesy toward patients into the training of residents and the impact of including the cost of medical procedures when residents ordered tests. -
Lee Bone Lab
Research in the Lee Bone Lab uses community-based participatory approaches to promote health in underserved urban African-American populations. We conduct randomized clinical trials on cardiovascular disease, diabetes and cancer detection and control in order to test the success of community interventions. We focus in particular on making interventions sustainable and on implementing electronic education to improve communication. -
Neuro-Oncology Surgical Outcomes Laboratory
Directed by Debraj “Raj” Mukherjee, MD, MPH, the laboratory focuses on improving access to care, reducing disparities, maximizing surgical outcomes, and optimizing quality of life for patients with brain and skull base tumors.
The laboratory achieves these aims by creating and analyzing institutional and national databases, developing and validating novel patient-centered quality of life instruments, leveraging machine learning and artificial intelligence platforms to risk-stratify vulnerable patient populations, and designing novel surgical trials to push the boundaries of neurosurgical innovation.
Our research also investigates novel approaches to improve neurosurgical medical education including studying the utility of video-based surgical coaching and the design of new operative instrumentation.
