Surgical Intensive Care/Intermediate Care – SICU/SIMC (Zayed 9 East)

Critically ill general surgery and trauma patients who have undergone complex surgical procedures.

Patient Population
  • Ages 16 and up
  • Conditions include level 1 trauma, transplantation (renal, liver, pancreas), vascular and general surgery
  • Average length of stay: 2 day

Number of Beds

  • 15

Nurse / Patient Ratio

  • 1:1-2

Rotation / Shifts

  • 12 hours
  • Flexible, modified self-scheduling

Skill Mix

  • Predominantly RN

Orientation

  • Experienced ICU nurses: 10 to 12 weeks
  • Med-surg-prepared nurses: 14 to 18 weeks
  • New Grads: SPRING Program
