Ambulatory Surgery/Perianesthesia (JHOPC)

Pre-, intra- and postoperative care of same-day adult and pediatric surgery patients. Specialty services include orthopedics, urology, Gyn, ENT, general, and lastics.

Patient Population
  • Ages: infancy through geriatrics
  • Types of surgery range from oncology to sports medicine to pediatric T&A’s to elective plastic
  • Average length of stay: 6 hours from pre-op to discharge from PACU
Number of Cases
  • Approximately-6,900 cases per year; about 30 cases per day
Nurse/Patient Ratio
  • Pre-op: 1:2
  • OR: 1:1
  • PACU: 1:2 first stage and 1:3 second stage
Rotation/Shifts
  • 8 and 10 hours on both units
  • Flexible, self-schedule from home
Skill Mix
  • PACU: 90 percent RN
  • OR: 70 percent RN,30 percent surgical tech
