Harry J. Duffey Family Patient and Family Services Team

Department of Oncology Social Work provides for the psychological, social, emotional, and practical needs of cancer patients and their families.  They are masters-level social workers with expertise in the specialized field of oncology.  The social workers can teach you how to manage the stress and changes that may come with cancer.  The office, located on the first floor of the Weinberg Building, Suite 1210, offers you other services as well, such as information about housing, transportation, counseling, education and support groups.  For more information, call (410) 955-8934.

Louise Knight is the Director of the Harry J. Duffey Family, Patient and Family Services Program. She graduated with a Baccalaureate Degree in Human Services from The University of Scranton, Pennsylvania, and with a Master of Social Work Degree from Temple University. She has extensive experience in the oncology social work field and has published in the areas of clinical and departmental management. She is a member of the National Association of Social Workers, Association of Oncology Social Work, and Society for Social Work Leadership in Healthcare, and National Academies of Practice.

Mary “Lacy” Fetting is a Senior Clinical Oncology Social Worker with the Sidney Kimmel Comprehensive Cancer Center. She graduated with a Baccalaureate Degree in Social and Behavioral Sciences from Johns Hopkins University and a Master of Social Work degree from Temple University. She has extensive training in family systems, communication and grief and loss. She has particular interest in the financial impact of cancer on patients and their families.

She graduated with a Baccalaureate Degree in Psychology from Central Michigan University in Mount Pleasant, and a Master of Social Work Degree from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, with a specialization in aging and dementia care. While at the University of Michigan, she was a McGregor Geriatric Fellow.

Kimberly graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree from St. Mary’s College of Maryland and holds a Master of Science Degree in special education from Johns Hopkins University.

Cheryl Fleming serves as the Resource Coordinator and Transportation Coordinator for the Sidney Kimmel Comprehensive Cancer Center. She provides information and referrals to community based resources to patients, families and staff. She is highly knowledgeable and instrumental in identifying and securing facility-based care for patients needing rehabilitation, extended nursing support or inpatient hospice care.

Joanne McMillan serves as the Housing Referral Coordinator and welcomes all visitors to the Patient and Family Services Suite. She handles guest reservations for the Hackerman-Patz Patient and Family Pavilion and provides information and referral assistance to other regional hotels, furnished and unfurnished apartments and the American Cancer Society’s Hope Lodge.

Barry L. Miller provides for the office administration. He answers the department primary phone line and is the first voice to getting connected to staff. He also provides similar support to the Oncology Pain and Palliative Care Team. In addition to his administrative functions, he provides notary public services to patients, guests and staff. Prior to working at The Kimmel Cancer Center he was a graphic and production artist for over 20 years.
