School of Medicine
The Johns Hopkins Wilmer Eye Institute was founded in 1925, as the nation's first university eye clinic. Internationally recognized faculty, outstanding clinical and research facilities, the resources of two major teaching hospitals, a large and varied patient population, and a superb group of students make Wilmer one of the premier ophthalmology training programs in the country. More than 100 Wilmer-trained ophthalmologists have gone on to become department chairs across the country and around the world. Whether they become clinician-educators, research scientists, business leaders in ophthalmology, or private practitioners, Wilmer provides a pathway for top minds in the field to succeed, thereby advancing the study, practice and teaching of ophthalmology.
"We are lucky enough to be trained by many of the world experts in ophthalmology. We have faculty who are committed to helping us become successful clinicians and surgeons. Finally, we have unparalleled access to research opportunities ranging from clinical and epidemiological studies to device development to basic science bench work."
-Jithin Yohannan, Class of 2017
