The Johns Hopkins Wilmer Eye Institute was founded in 1925, as the nation's first university eye clinic. Internationally recognized faculty, outstanding clinical and research facilities, the resources of two major teaching hospitals, a large and varied patient population, and a superb group of students make Wilmer one of the premier ophthalmology training programs in the country. More than 100 Wilmer-trained ophthalmologists have gone on to become department chairs across the country and around the world. Whether they become clinician-educators, research scientists, business leaders in ophthalmology, or private practitioners, Wilmer provides a pathway for top minds in the field to succeed, thereby advancing the study, practice and teaching of ophthalmology.
"Wilmer has a long tradition of training leaders in ophthalmology and we are fortunate to mentor and work with the best and brightest young minds in our field."
-Divya Srikumaran, M.D., Vice Chair of Education at the Johns Hopkins Wilmer Eye Institute and Medical Director, Wilmer Eye Institute - Odenton
