Johns Hopkins Medicine Policy on Interaction with Industry
Many kinds of interactions with industry are essential for converting the knowledge gained in our laboratories and clinics into treatments for patients. In order to maintain the trust of patients and the public, and to ensure decisions are made on the basis of sound, independent judgments, interactions between JHM personnel and industry must be clearly defined and carefully managed.

In March 2009 Johns Hopkins Medicine adopted a new policy designed to reorient the way we work with pharmaceutical and medical device companies. It limits interactions whose purpose is primarily product marketing, and it clarifies the terms of interactions with industry where the chief goal is scientific exchange.
The policy, which took effect July 1, 2009, incorporates and strengthens some existing policies, and sets forth new rules in several areas. It generally applies to full-time and part-time faculty and staff, trainees, students and volunteers of all Hopkins Medicine member organizations.
