Historic Johns Hopkins Multiple Kidney Swap Operations to be Featured on the Dr. Oz Show
Release Date: September 21, 2009
September 21, 2009- Robert A. Montgomery, M.D., Ph.D., director of the Johns Hopkins Comprehensive Transplant Center and 11 Johns Hopkins patients, who were part of the first eight-way, multihospital, domino kidney transplant this summer, will be featured on the new Dr. Oz Show.
The interview segment, recorded on Sept. 3 at New York’s 30 Rockefeller Plaza studio, features Dr. Montgomery, the patients -- including five donors, five recipients (3 females and 2 males) and their families. The segment is currently slated to air on Thursday, Sept. 24.
“I think this was an excellent venue to increase awareness for kidney paired donation and the alarming fact that we are in a midst of a crisis in organ transplantation in this country,” said Montgomery. “I hope the segment will answer viewer’s questions about kidney donation and possibly encourage them to help those in need by being donors.”
According to the show’s Web-site, the Dr. Oz Show airs in Baltimore on WBAL-TV Channel 11 (NBC) at 2 p.m. and in the Washington D.C. area on WUSA-TV Channel 9 (CBS) at 3 p.m. For additional information, check your local cable or satellite provider for station designation.
