Dr. Pardo’s lab has focused on molecular analysis of pathways associated with neuroimmune responses, astroglial and microglial activation, to explore their role in mechanisms of neuronal injury and repair in cortical and spinal cord dysfunction.
Dr. Arun Azhagiri, a research fellow in the lab since 2007, has made excellent progress on studies of molecular pathology of autism and focused on the role of Toll-like receptors (TLRs) and microRNA in the cerebral cortex organization. Results of the studies focused on TLRs in the cerebral cortex in children with autism were already presented at the International Meeting for Autism Research in May 2009 and most recently in the Society for Neurosciences Meeting in October 2009.
