Subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH) is the presence of blood within the subarachnoid space, which is the area between two of the membranes that surround the brain. The most common cause of SAH is head trauma. Without head trauma, SAH is usually due to a ruptured aneurysm or arteriovenous malformation.
