The Division of Neuroimmunology and Neurological Infections

The Richard T. Johnson Division of Neuroimmunology and Neurological Infections has been established to promote outstanding patient care and research for immune and infectious disorders of the nervous system through training of clinical and basic science researchers, developing and providing diagnostic services, consultation services and helping develop new modes of treatment.

The Division consists of Neurologists and physicians from other related disciplines. Together they provide expertise in several major immune and infectious disorders of the nervous system that includes Neuro-AIDS and other viral and opportunistic infections, Multiple Sclerosis and related leukoencephalopathies, Transverse Myelitis and other myelopathies, Guillian Barre Syndrome, Chronic demyelinating polyneuropathy, Myasthenia gravis and other immune mediated disorders of the peripheral nervous system.

The Division members have active research programs funded largely through Federal agencies to study the epidemiology and pathogenesis, and to develop newer diagnostic and therapeutic modalities.

The Division also has an active training program that includes clinical fellowships, research fellowships, and graduate student clerkships for basic scientists.

On May 21, 2004, the Division of Neuroimmunology and Infectious Diseases was dedicated to honor Dr. Richard T. Johnson .
