What is neurofibromatosis type 2?
Neurofibromatosis type 2 (NF2) is less common than NF type 1, affecting about 1 in every 25,000 people. Symptoms generally occur in the late teens and early 20s. However, some people experience symptoms in childhood and others not until age 40 or later.
The most common features of NF2 are:
- tinnitus
- hearing loss
- focal neurologic problems (i.e. weakness)
