The 3 Steps in Evaluation of Hydrocephalus:

Appointment scheduling: Please complete the new patient questionnaire and request your primary care physician or referring physician send his or her notes and referral to us. We will review your notes, questionnaire and MRI/CT scans to determine the best person to examine you and to see if additional imaging studies are needed.
Neurological examination: The examination will focus on gait and memory assessment in particular and to determine if other disorders that mimic hydrocephalus are present. If necessary, additional scans will be done at the same visit, if the ones outside do not provide sufficient detail. Your scans will be reviewed in the context of your clinical assessment.
Diagnostic procedures: A lumbar puncture, an extended CSF drainage trial, cerebrospinal fluid pressure monitoring or shunt patency study will be done to determine what further treatment is indicated.
