The Department of Neurology at Johns Hopkins has two Primary Stroke Centers certified by The Joint Commission (TJC) — one at The Johns Hopkins Hospital and one at the Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center.

The Joint Commission’s Certificate of Distinction for Primary Stroke Centers recognizes that our centers offer the critical elements required to achieve long-term success in improving outcomes.

The nationally recognized Johns Hopkins Hospital Stroke Center provides compassionate and innovative care through our state-of-the-art inpatient hospital and the Stroke Prevention And Recovery Center (SPARC).

A stroke is a medical emergency. It is critical to recognize the signs of a stroke. The greatest chance for recovery from stroke occurs when treatment is started immediately. Should you experience any of these symptoms, please call 911 and immediately go to the hospital.

Get With The Guidelines Gold Plus Award

The American Heart Association and American Stroke Association recognize Johns Hopkins Hospital for achieving 85 percent or higher adherence to all Get With The Guidelines Stroke Performance Achievement indicators for consecutive 12-month intervals, and 75 percent or higher compliance with 5 or 8 Get With The Guidelines Stroke Quality Measures, to improve quality of patient care and outcomes.

This award recognizes Johns Hopkins Hospital’s commitment to success in implementing a higher standard of stroke care, according to evidenced-based guidelines.
