Juan Troncoso, MD
Director, Clinical and Neuropathology Core
Juan C. Troncoso, MD, is a Professor in the Departments of Pathology and Neurology and is a Board-certified neurologist/neuropathologist with expertise in the pathological diagnosis of dementias and the neuropathology of normal aging. He is Co-Director of the Johns Hopkins Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center (ADRC), Project Leader for the Neuropathology Core, and co-Project Leader for an ADRC research project entitled, “Neurobiology of Cognitive Decline in Aged Humans.”
Dr Troncoso directs the JHMI Brain Resource Center and directs the JHMI Neuropathology Core for the Hopkins Huntington’s Disease Center and has experience in the banking of brain tissues as well as conventional histology, immunocytochemistry, and genotyping for apoE alleles.
The laboratory of Dr Troncoso has conducted apoE genotyping for approximately eleven years, serving the Division of Neuropathology and other investigators in the JHMI research community. Since its inception, Dr Troncoso has been the director of the Neuropathology Core of Hopkins Udall Center.
In addition, Dr Troncoso has been the Neuropathology Consultant at the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner of the State of Maryland since 1981. Dr Troncoso is the Principal Investigator of the Neuropathology Core.
