The Spinal Column Biomechanics & Outcomes Lab aims to improve the neurological outcome and functional capacity of patients undergoing surgical management of traumatic, degenerative, and neoplastic spinal disease. We achieve these aims by:
- Validating the effectiveness of various multi-level fusion constructs with in vitro biomechanical testing.
- Applying biomechanically validated constructs into clinical practice and assessing their long-term efficacy with appropriate outcome measures.
- Determining the immediate and long-term efficacy of surgical resection and fusion for the treatment primary and metastatic spinal column tumors.
- Identifying physiological and operative factors associated with perioperative morbidity, pseudoarthrosis, and poor outcome through retrospective biostatistical modeling and prospective longitudinal observation studies.
