Ongoing Clinical Research Studies:
Epidemiology of NMO. This is the first attempt to understand the incidence and prevalence of NMO in the United States. It also tries to find risk factors associated with development of disease. Enrollment is open to any NMO patient and anyone with history of transverse myelitis or optic neuritis. Involvement includes a thorough 39-page questionnaire and short interview in clinic.
Future Clinical Research Studies:
Sustained-release fampridine in NMO/TM. A clinical trial to assess the safety and efficacy of sustained release fampridine in patients with NMO and transverse myelitis. Expected start date: Spring 2011.
Biomarker analysis in NMO. Monthly blood tests to look for biomarkers of disease progression, exacerbations and remissions. Expected start date: Fall 2011.
