A Message from the Program Directors

Program DirectorsChild Neurology today is an exciting field, with incredible opportunities for intelligent, motivated, and compassionate physicians.  It is difficult to imagine a specialty more important to the future of society with our unique privilege to care for children and their developing minds.  As advances in neuroimaging, medications, and genetic testing continue, more children with neurologic disorders are being diagnosed and cured at a rapid pace.  Matching these advances, a large number of researchers, medical students, and pediatricians are joining the field of child neurology.

Here at Johns Hopkins, we are committed to train the next generation of child neurologists in this time of change.  We have a large faculty dedicated to teaching physicians not only to be competent and thorough clinicians, but also to be academic researchers.  The busy clinical rotations are balanced by elective times for basic and clinical research experience, made possible by the large number of residents at a given time.  Many of our graduates have gone on to become Chairs of Departments and leaders in the field, including many who have stayed here at Hopkins and remained on faculty.

Our program offers residents experiences in all aspects of neurology, with our close ties with the Departments of Neurology and Neurosurgery as well as the Kennedy Krieger Institute.  Specialty training after 3 years of training exists in nearly all subspecialties including epilepsy, stroke, neuromuscular disease, and many other fields.

We take pride in our comprehensive and enjoyable residency program in Child Neurology.  Both of us have trained here personally, and are strongly committed to use our experiences to keep the program the best in the United States.  Come visit us in Baltimore and see what we have to offer.
