The Sidney Kimmel Comprehensive Cancer Center Investigational Drug Service (IDS) plays an integral role in supporting clinical research in the Cancer Center. The key functions of the IDS pharmacists and technicians are to provide ongoing intensive pharmacy support for the clinical trials and thereby support the mission of Center. IDS is compliant with Maryland Board of Pharmacy regulations, United States Pharmacopeia (USP) Chapter <797> pharmaceutical sterile compounding regulations and with state, federal, and JHM Institutional Review Board (JHMIRB) regulations for the conduct of research. IDS supports clinical research by collaborating with the research teams to provide protocol consultation, manage the study drug supply, blind study drug supply, prepare and dispense the study drug, participate in the order set development process, provide study drug management training for study coordinators, and other services as requested to support the study teams. The resource is available to investigators and patients 24 hours a day, seven days a week to help manage the over 300 protocols for which drugs are dispensed.
