Solving biomedical mysteries in real time.
At the Center for Cell Dynamics in Development and Disease, we study spatially and temporally regulated molecular events in living cells, tissues, and organisms. Cellular behaviors such as cytokinesis, chemotaxis, asymmetric cell division, and changes in synaptic strength depend upon spatially localized, temporally dynamic biochemical reactions. Tens of thousands of these events, such as changes in protein or lipid phosphorylation, localization, and binding occur every second. Our team develops and applies state-of-the-art biosensors and imaging techniques to reveal how these cellular and molecular dynamics lead to normal development and disease.
