Probing the machinery of dynamic cell adhesion
Susan Craig is a cell biologist and biochemist who investigates how mammalian cells build dynamic cell junctions. Her lab uses in vitro biochemistry, live cell imaging, and FRET and FRAP to discover how molecules interact to build strong and dynamic intercellular bridges and connections to the extracellular matrix. Susan’s lab uncovered a fundamental role of structural protein autoinhibition in regulating assembly of cell adhesions, and is pursuing how this is regulated by cellular signaling systems.
