Trailblazing Howard Countian Makes Second $10,000 Gift to HCGH
The Howard Hospital Foundation received a second $10,000 gift from local resident Shirley M. Bossom in support of pastoral services at HCGH. Bossom's first $10,000 gift was made as a bequest to the hospital in 2005.
A determination to serve her community comes naturally to Shirley, a fifth-generation Howard Countian who comes from a long line of trailblazers. Her great grandmother was one of the eight founding members of the Rockland United Methodist Church in Ellicott City and her father was Howard County 's first Deputy Fire Marshall.
Shirley herself was the first woman to serve on the Board of Directors of Good Shepherd Cemetery in Ellicott City and its first female president. Bossom's appreciation of her family's history extends to the house in which she resides, originally purchased by her great-grandfather 130 years ago. Evelyn Bolduc, Chair of the Howard Hospital Foundation, says the Foundation is honored to have such generous, community-minded benefactors. " Howard County General Hospital offers state-of-the-art care in a warm, community setting,” says Bolduc. We are especially honored that Shirley continues her family's legacy of service by helping us provide hope and spiritual support to our patients and their families.”
