What is Team CONQUER Cancer?

Team CONQUER  Cancer is a group made up of interested members of the community, cancer survivors, their families and friends, who want to get active and be part of a team while supporting the Claudia Mayer Cancer Resource Center at Howard County General Hospital.  Team members inspire one another in preparing for and participating in athletic events of all types. It doesn’t matter if you walk, jog, run, bike, swim or hike; the team is open to ALL ability levels, from absolute beginners to ultra tri-athletes. The most important thing is to get moving & get healthy!

Do I have to participate in races or events to  be on Team CONQUER Cancer?

You do not have to run races or events to be on Team CONQUER. All team members are asked to make a fundraising pledge or reach certain goals, and to be supportive to those participating in events by volunteering your time at the events and/or training with and encouraging the team with their goals.

How can I join Team CONQUER Cancer?

To be added to the Team CONQUER List, simply send an email to Anita Broccolino (abrocco1@jhmi.edu or abroccolino@yahoo.com) or call Anita at 410-740-7570. You will be added to the email list and sent a simple form to fill in.

What events do team members participate in?

Team CONQUER members participate in a variety of events, including: 5K’s, Half Marathons, Duathlons, Swims, Bikes, Trail runs, Hikes, Triathlons and more.

Is there a charity fundraising component to being on the team?

Yes. All Team CONQUER Cancer members are asked to make a commitment to raising money and awareness for the Claudia Mayer Cancer Resource Center. For some races, we request a fundraising goal of $350 +. Once you agree to be on the team, guidelines, information and fundraising ideas will be sent to you with specifics.

Volunteers Needed

For the Iron Girl Half Marathon & Co-Ed 5K in April, we’ll need over 50 Volunteers.  We’ll also need Volunteers for the Triathlons as well.  If you would like to help the team, we have various opportunities. Please call 410-740-7570, or email abrocco1@jhmi.edu.
