Geriatrics | Acute Care for Elders (ACE)

Geriatric ACE Unit Photo

The Acute Care for Elders (ACE) unit at Howard County General Hospital, Johns Hopkins Medicine, is designed to meet the unique and specialized needs of older adults who are hospitalized for acute illness and at risk for functional decline. Our goals include helping patients return home as soon as possible and reducing their need for readmission to the hospital.

Our care team includes a geriatrician, nurse practitioner, social workers and specialized nurses to provide an interdisciplinary approach and the best possible individualized care for each elder during their hospital stay. ACE is a patient- and family-centered program in which elders maintain their independence and functional abilities to a higher degree, can better manage their own care, have higher patient satisfaction and are discharged earlier than patients in a traditional hospital care setting.
